Mexico City.- The lifeless body of the last person to be rescued after the crash of a Mexican Navy aircraft during a medical mission near Galveston, Texas (United States), was located, bringing the total to six dead, the institution reported this Tuesday.
In a statement, the Secretariat of the Navy, through the Mexican Navy, confirmed the death of six of the eight people who were traveling on Monday in the Mexican Navy aircraft, four naval crew members and four civilians.
“The two people who survived the accident are in stable condition and are receiving the corresponding medical attention,” the note added.
According to initial reports, the survivors are a nurse and the mother of a child with severe burns who was being transferred from Campeche (southeast Mexico) to Texas (USA).
The sixth deceased, found today, would be a Navy agent, of whom no further details were provided.
Previously, the United States Coast Guard confirmed the presence of a two-year-old child among the fatalities of the accident, which occurred in waters near the Texan town of Galveston.
The plane, a twin-engine light transport model, was carrying four members of the Mexican Navy and four civilians, including the minor, who was being transferred to the Shriner’s pediatric hospital in Galveston in collaboration with the Michou and Mau Foundation, dedicated to assisting children with severe burns.
The plane took off from Mérida, in the Mexican state of Yucatán, and was heading to Galveston Scholes International Airport, about 80 kilometers southeast of Houston, according to the flight tracking website FlightRadar24.

Other witnesses have stated that at the time of the accident, which occurred yesterday shortly before 15:17 local time (9:17 GMT on Monday), there was very little visibility in the area due to fog, which is believed to be the reason for the accident. EFE
