The Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, criticized this Tuesday the U.S. and European countries for implementing discriminatory migration policies in order to maintain “their white comfort, based on the intensive use of oil and coal”.

European and North American white societies, instead of prioritizing the fight against the climate crisis, have initiated a program of pogroms against migration. That is why fascism and repression are on the rise in their own countries, and aggression and wars against foreign peoples,” wrote the president on his X account.

In the same critical tone, he asserted that “that’s why Europe does nothing against a genocide before its eyes”, referring to the bombings of Israel against the Gaza Strip, of which he is an open detractor.

“They want to maintain their white comfort based on the intensive use of oil and coal, and with that they not only help extinguish life, but they kill their own children and grandchildren with the collapse of the climate. And to cover up their fear of losing comfort, then they attack migrants and build their politics around the repression of migrants,” he assessed.

Following this, Petro referred to a video, which accompanied his reflection, in which it is seen how, in his words, “the Spanish Police attacks five Colombian migrants”. In the piece, the aggression that a group of police officers inflicts on at least two people, one of them a woman, is observed. “I expect an explanation from the Spanish government”, demanded the South American dignitary.
