The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Thursday the sending of 5,000 additional soldiers to Poland, a decision that reinforces the US military presence in Eastern Europe amid tensions within NATO and differences with several European allies over the war with Iran.
The president made the announcement through Truth Social and directly linked the measure to his relationship with the Polish president Karol Nawrocki, a conservative nationalist leader publicly supported by Trump during the electoral campaign in Poland.
“Based on the successful election of the now President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, whom I was proud to support, and our relationship with him, I am pleased to announce that the United States will send an additional 5,000 troops to Poland,” Trump wrote.The decision represents a shift from the signals recently sent by the White House regarding a possible reduction of US troops in Europe. Just two days earlier, Vice President JD Vance had confirmed that a military deployment planned for Polish territory was delayed.

The announcement about Poland also comes after the United States confirmed weeks ago the withdrawal of 5,000 soldiers stationed in Germany and the temporary suspension of another contingent that was to be deployed on Polish territory.
