Jerusalem.- Two people died of malnutrition in the Gaza Strip, reported this Thursday the Ministry of Health of the enclave in its daily report that collects data from the previous day.
The two registered deaths raise the total number of victims of famine and malnutrition to 271, including 112 children, since the beginning of the war.
Daily, the ministry denounces deaths due to lack of food, while humanitarian aid in the enclave remains limited, almost a month after the Israeli government announced “humanitarian pauses” for the entry of supplies.
According to Israeli figures, 300 trucks loaded with food enter the Strip daily. However, local authorities and the UN assure that at least 500 trucks are needed daily to supply a population of more than two million inhabitants.
On the other hand, they also denounce that of the limited humanitarian aid entering the enclave, much of it is not distributed in a timely manner, as the trucks are assaulted by armed gangs or by the starving population.
Similarly, healthcare organizations operating in the enclave constantly denounce the shortage of supplies to address the growing increase in cases of malnutrition.
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has registered at least 1,599 outpatient patients for malnutrition in Gaza City, 672 of whom are children under 5 years old, as of August 9th.
