New York police are searching for two additional suspects after a Dominican man was found stabbed to death inside his luxury apartment in Queens, while one suspect has already been taken into custody.
The victim, identified as 36-year-old Carlos Penzo, was discovered dead in the bathtub of his apartment at The Hayden residential building in Long Island City on August 1. Authorities said he had suffered multiple stab wounds to the head, face and chest.
Investigators initially responded to a 911 call placed from the victim’s cellphone but were unable to access the apartment. Later that day, building security reported a naked man on the roof allegedly attempting to disable surveillance cameras with a fire extinguisher. Police arrested the suspect as he tried to re-enter Penzo’s apartment.
After entering the residence, officers found Penzo’s body along with multiple weapons inside the apartment. Detectives believe at least two other individuals may have been present during the fatal attack and are continuing to search for them.
Penzo’s family described him as a kind and nonviolent person and said they are devastated by the circumstances surrounding his death. The investigation remains ongoing, and no motive has been announced.
