U.S. seizes more than 12,000 pounds of cocaine in the Pacific

Washington.- The United States Government reported this Wednesday that they have seized more than 12,000 pounds of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific during a series of operations carried out at sea during the last week. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a Coast Guard unit intercepted a vessel that had 3,000 pounds of cocaine inside and recovered another 750 pounds that the crew members of the suspect boat were apparently throwing overboard. During this week, the Coast Guard carried out three other similar operations in international waters near the south of Mexico and near the Galapagos Island of Ecuador with a seizure of another 8,800 pounds of this drug to total 12,550 pounds during the week, according to the official statement.

In addition, the authorities detailed that eleven alleged drug traffickers of various nationalities were arrested at sea. This same week, the United States caused rejection from various leaders of the continent such as the presidents of Cuba, Bolivia, and Colombia due to another military deployment at sea, which is carried out with three ships and 4,000 soldiers near the coasts of Venezuela in the Western Atlantic, under the justification of combating drug trafficking.
