Liga de las Estrellas wins Maxibasketball championship in Colombia

SANTO DOMINGO, RD – The delegation of the League of the Stars, from the Dominican Republic, won two champion titles in the celebration of the International Maxibasketball Cup “Amigos de Zúñiga 2025”, held in the city of Medellín, Colombia.

The Dominicans prevailed in the +40 and +45 years categories, in a contest in which 80 Maxibasketball teams from 14 countries participated, and which was played in the Iván de Bedout Coliseum, in the Colombian city of Medellín in the province of Antioquia. The information was provided by Raúl Peña (Koby), who served as general manager of both Dominican teams, and as managers were Carlos Martínez, in the +40 years category, and César Rosario (Papalo), in the +45 years category. The “Amigos de Zúñiga 2025” International Maxibasketball Cup was organized by the Antioquia Basketball League (LAB), this December. In the +40 years category, the Liga de las Estrellas defeated the Puerto Rico team in the final match, 78-71, in which the criollos Manuel Fortuna (Mané), the romanense Juan Pablo Montás, César Rosario (Papalo) and Stalin Fernández stood out on offense. Mañé Fortuna was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the +40 years category. While, in the +45 years category, the Liga de las Estrellas defeated the La Hermandad squad from Panama, 68-62, despite the presence on the court of the Panamanian Jaime Lloreda. In this category, the Liga de las Estrellas won its third championship in its participations in the “Amigos de Zúñiga” International Maxibasketball Cup, from Medellín, Colombia. The most outstanding players for the Dominicans were Stalin Fernández, Alberto Ozuna (Cebollita), Edgar Lugo, Carlos Martínez, Roberto Carlos, and Ricardo Monsac. Vegan Lugo was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the +45 years category.
