FIFA reported that the matches played so far have recorded an average occupancy of 99.5% of stadium capacity, with an average attendance of nearly 63,000 fans per match.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino celebrated the achievement through his social media channels and thanked the support of the fans who have filled the sports venues since the beginning of the tournament.

“One million fans in the stadiums! Congratulations to Aaron Bren, who became the one-millionth fan of this World Cup, and thank you to all the supporters who continue to create an extraordinary atmosphere at every match,” expressed Infantino.

The 2026 edition of the World Cup is shaping up to break the all-time attendance record set in the United States during the 1994 World Cup, when approximately 3.5 million spectators were recorded throughout the tournament.

With the expansion of the format to 48 national teams and a total of 104 matches, projections indicate that the current edition could reach a cumulative attendance of up to 6.5 million fans, which would represent a new record for the world’s top football competition.

The host stadiums distributed among the three host nations have capacities ranging from 43,000 to more than 80,000 spectators, allowing for an unprecedented number of fans to be accommodated during the championship.

The 2026 World Cup continues to establish itself as one of the most attended sporting events in history, with a massive response from fans and high demand for tickets for the upcoming days of the tournament.
