Washington.- The
White House stated this Friday that for now
it has no plans to organize immigration raids taking advantage of the
Super Bowl next February, where Bad Bunny will star in the halftime show.
“As far as I know, there is no tangible plan for that at this time,” responded White House spokeswoman,
Karoline Leavitt, when asked at a press conference.
Leavitt added, however, that the Donald Trump Administration “will always arrest and deport illegal immigrants when we find them.”
Fear of Raids at the Super Bowl
The choice of the Puerto Rican star as the headliner for the halftime show of the NFL final, which will be held on February 8 in Santa Clara (California), has generated outrage among many Trump supporters.
The spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter: “I know there are many in this room who are very eager to hear the president’s (Trump) response about Bad Bunny in the halftime show, so I won’t get ahead of him,” she declared.
Last Wednesday, Corey Lewandowski, advisor to the Department of Homeland Security, suggested that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) will deploy its agents around the Super Bowl stadium because «there is no place where shelter can be provided to those who are in this country illegally».
Rejection of Bad Bunny’s participation
“It’s a shame they decided to choose someone who seems to hate America so much to represent them at halftime,” he added about Bad Bunny.
The Puerto Rican has been critical of Trump’s immigration policies, has used his music to send messages of defense of the Latino community and supported the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, in the last US presidential elections.
Bad Bunny also excluded the United States from his latest world tour, ‘DeBé TiRAR MáS FOToS World Tour’, to avoid immigration raids at his concerts.
With his performance, Bad Bunny will mark a milestone in the history of this event by becoming the first Latin artist to perform solo in a Super Bowl show.
