Santo Domingo Oeste.– The Santo Domingo Oeste municipality received this Thursday the Torch of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, in a ceremony led by Mayor Francisco Peña, as part of the national tour of the flame that symbolizes the regional sports celebration.
The activity began at the Las Caobas ballpark and brought together authorities, athletes, students, and representatives from various institutions in the municipality, who accompanied the torch’s journey through several points of the district.
The governor of the Santo Domingo province, Lucrecia Santana Leyba, highlighted that the tour represents a historic moment for the country and emphasized the population’s enthusiasm for the celebration of the games.
“With great pride, we are making this tour in all the municipalities of our province. Today we continue here in Santo Domingo Oeste together with Mayor Francisco Peña, carrying this torch and sharing with our athletes and citizens,” he expressed.

The official pointed out that the large turnout of people at the event reflects the population’s interest in sports and the importance of the Dominican Republic hosting the regional competition.

“We are experiencing something historic in our country with the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. This municipality has many athletes and many people waiting for the start of the games,” he stated.

For his part, the municipal director of Sports of Santo Domingo Oeste, Gilberto de la Cruz, stated that the municipality “is dressed in glory” by being part of the torch relay.
He explained that the event was supported by institutions such as OMSA, the Santo Domingo Oeste City Council, the Governor’s Office, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the National Police, the Fire Department, and the Civil Defense, among others.
Likewise, he detailed that the route consists of relays every 200 meters, in which representative personalities of the municipality participate, including athletes, business people, students, and other prominent figures, who carry the torch until its arrival at the main stage.
The Torch of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games will continue its journey through different provinces and municipalities of the country before the official start of the sporting event, which will bring together thousands of athletes from the region.
