The Dominican Republic’s top female tennis player needed one hour and 18 minutes to defeat Leslie with partials of 6-3 and 6-1, in the match held at the Parque del Este National Tennis Center.
After the match, Zamburek confessed that he started the game with some nervousness due to the pressure of debuting at home and representing the country, although he managed to find his best level as the match progressed.
“I started slowly and a bit nervous. Nerves affect my legs the most, so I started making many mistakes until I gained the confidence to play my game,” expressed the Dominican tennis player.
With this result, Zamburek advanced to the round of 16, where she will face Honduran Natalie Espinal in search of a spot among the top eight in the tournament.
In other results from the women’s day, the Mexican Julia García, fifth seed, defeated the Costa Rican Lucía Gallegos by 6-3 and 6-2, and will face the Cuban Roxana Valdés in the next round, who overcame the Bermudian Shelby Madeiros by 6-1 and 6-0.
In the men’s draw, the Puerto Rican Marko Mesarovic, the fifth seed, defeated the representative from Saint Kitts and Nevis Omar Mongerie with partials of 6-1 and 6-3, qualifying for the second round, where he will face the Jamaican Nicholas Gore.
