Paris, France. – The 19-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva won the first Grand Slam title of her career this Saturday after defeating Poland’s Maja Chwalinska in the Roland Garros final 6-3, 6-2.
The young Siberian tennis player made history by becoming the youngest champion of the Parisian tournament since Monica Seles in 1992 and the first Russian to lift the Suzanne Lenglen trophy since Maria Sharapova in 2014.
Coached by the Spaniard Conchita Martínez, Andreeva confirmed in Paris the enormous potential she has been showing throughout the season, establishing herself as one of the great promises of world tennis despite her young age.
Currently ranked among the best players in the world, the Russian dominated the final with authority thanks to the power of her forehand and a competitive maturity unusual for a player of just 19 years old.
After securing the victory, Andreeva fell emotionally onto the clay of Roland Garros, the tournament she has always confessed to be her favorite since she was a child.
“I thank myself for having believed in me and for working hard even in the most difficult moments,” she expressed during the awards ceremony.
The Russian also thanked her team for their support, especially Conchita Martínez and her mother, highlighting the effort made to reach the most important moment of her young career.
The title in Paris marks the official birth of a new star in women’s tennis and confirms that, at just 19 years old, Mirra Andreeva is already a protagonist in the world elite.
