Washington (EFE).- Venus Williams, winner of seven ‘grand slams’ and ready to reappear at the Washington tournament at 45 years old, assured this Sunday that “the only thing” that would improve her return would be to do it accompanied by her sister Serena Williams, who retired from tennis in 2022.

Venus will return to compete in Washington after 16 months of inactivity thanks to a wildcard and will debut against her compatriot Peyton Stearns.

“I don’t ask those questions, I don’t ask her that (if Serena is going to return). I’m her biggest fan. I never wanted her to retire. I knew she would, and it took me time to accept it,” Venus Williams said in a press conference in Washington.

“I don’t know what he’s going to do. I don’t ask those questions. We always play tennis, because that’s what we are, we’re always hitting the ball. It’s a great cardio exercise,” he continued.

“I always tell my team, the only thing that would make it better would be if she were here, as we always did, so of course I miss her. But if she comes back, I’m sure she’ll let you know,” she concluded.

Serena Williams recently posted a video of herself playing tennis.

Venus considered that perhaps she did it after seeing her ready to return to compete in the WTA circuit.

Venus Williams feels confident in her return
“For now I’m here, and who knows, maybe there’s more for me. I’m not showing my cards, for now I’m focused on this tournament. I haven’t played in a year, there’s no doubt that I can play tennis, but obviously playing matches again requires time to regain rhythm,” she said.

“I feel like I’m going to play well, I’m still the same player. I hit hard, that’s my personal brand,” she added.

In these 16 months without playing, Venus dedicated herself to her interests off the court and admitted that she hasn’t had time to miss her sport.

That said, his recent visit to Wimbledon reminded him of his great past moments.

“When I went to Wimbledon this year, I was there for a day and it was very nice and exciting. I remembered all the moments I’ve experienced and the adrenaline, all those things. It’s pure fun, the fun of the challenge, overcoming challenges, your rivals, the conditions, yourself,” she said.
