Army detains 82 Haitians in irregular status during operations in Dajabón and Valverde

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic Army (ERD) reported that it detained 82 Haitian nationals in an irregular migratory status during several patrol and interdiction operations carried out in the provinces of Dajabón and Valverde.

According to the military institution, one of the interventions was carried out by soldiers of the Tenth Infantry Battalion, attached to the Beller Fortress, with the support of drone units and ground patrols, who located 20 foreigners in the vicinity of kilometer 3 of the Dajabón highway, near the El Bohío cabins.

The group was composed of 16 men, three women, and one minor, who were detained during the border surveillance operation.

In another action carried out by members of the Aminilla Military Post, the authorities intercepted another 24 Haitian citizens without immigration documentation in the Los Amaceyes community, of whom 21 were men and three were women.

Likewise, during an operation carried out in the Contraembalse sector, Mao municipality, Valverde province, Army personnel detained 38 Haitian nationals following a pursuit in a wooded area where they were attempting to evade the military presence.

This last group was made up of 29 men and nine women, according to the report provided by the ERD.

The detained foreigners were transferred to the corresponding military facilities and will subsequently be handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) for the procedures established in accordance with current legislation.

The Army reported that it maintains permanent surveillance and interdiction operations deployed in the border zone and other areas under its responsibility, with the objective of reinforcing territorial control and confronting irregular migration and other illicit activities.
