Santiago.-For the third time, the hearing to determine the coercive measure against Christopher Torres Ortiz, alias “El Mosquito”, and David Jiménez Feliz, identified by the Public Ministry as the alleged responsible for robbing a woman in broad daylight, was postponed, in an event that occurred in broad daylight in the center of Santiago and was captured by surveillance cameras.
The Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Santiago forwarded the knowledge of the process for this Friday 20th, starting at 4:00 in the afternoon, after one of the accused requested to be assisted by a private lawyer, while the other will continue to be represented by the public defense.
The postponement keeps a case that has generated outrage among citizens in suspense, because the assault occurred in one of the busiest areas of the urban center and in front of multiple witnesses.
According to the file presented by the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office, both young people are accused of participating in the robbery perpetrated last Sunday, March 8, at the intersection of Salvador Cucurullo and Duarte streets, in the heart of the city.

According to preliminary investigations, the accused were traveling aboard a Z3000 CG200 motorcycle, black in color, allegedly driven by Jiménez Feliz, when they intercepted a Haitian woman who was walking along the aforementioned road.
Authorities maintain that Christopher Torres Ortiz, “El Mosquito”, would have been the one who snatched the victim’s wallet, which contained cash and other belongings, and then tried to escape with his companion.
However, the escape was thwarted by the quick intervention of a driver who witnessed the assault and decided to ram the motorcycle on which the alleged robbers were traveling with his vehicle, causing partial damage to the engine. After the impact, both men abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot.
The citizen, whose identity is kept confidential for security reasons, has been identified by the authorities as a key witness within the investigative process.
The file also relies on surveillance camera videos, which captured both the exact moment of the assault and the sequence following the failed escape. The images were collected by agents of the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM) and the Cyber Police Area Directorate (DICAT).
The Prosecutor’s Office explained that, after obtaining the judicial arrest warrants, it proceeded to execute them when both defendants appeared before the Department of Crimes and Offenses against Property of the prosecuting body.
Provisionally, the Public Ministry attributes to them the violation of articles 265, 266, 2, 379, 382, 383 and 386-2 of the Dominican Penal Code, related to criminal association and attempted robbery with violence on public roads, which is why it insists that they be imposed preventive detention as a coercive measure.
The case has gained particular notoriety in Santiago not only because of the way the robbery occurred in a central and highly crowded area, but also because of the reaction of a citizen who prevented the alleged assailants from escaping, in an episode that was recorded and quickly went viral.
