Santo Domingo.– Two Dominican citizens wanted by the United States justice system for crimes of second-degree murder and sexual assault were arrested during simultaneous operations carried out by agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), the Public Ministry, and U.S. Marshals authorities.
One of those arrested was identified as Mario Jaquez, who also appears under the names Mario Elvin Jaquez and Mario Elvin Fernández Ureña. The man was located on the main street of the municipal district of Los Montones, in San José de las Matas, Santiago province.
The arrest was carried out through an order issued by the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, after it was requested by a court in the state of New York, where he must answer to a charge of second-degree murder.
In a second intervention, Mario Juan García was arrested during an operation carried out in the vicinity of Sixth Street, in the San Pedro de Macorís province.
According to the authorities, Garcia is wanted by the justice system of the state of Connecticut, where he faces charges related to sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor, and impairing the morals of a minor, in accordance with the laws of that jurisdiction.

The DNCD and the Public Ministry reported that both will remain in custody while the corresponding legal procedures for their eventual extradition to U.S. authorities move forward.
The institutions indicated that these actions are part of the international cooperation agreements between the Dominican Republic and the United States to combat transnational crime and ensure the prosecution of individuals wanted by the justice systems of other countries.
