Quito.- The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador approved this Friday the call for local elections and for the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS), which will be held on November 29, in an election to which more than 13.8 million voters are called.
During the democratic participation day, Ecuadorians will elect twenty-three provincial prefects and vice-prefects, 222 mayors, 909 urban councilors, 457 rural councilors, 4,131 principal members of rural parish boards, and seven members of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS).
The electoral body reported that the calendar establishes that the registration of candidacies for the sectional elections will take place between August 2 and August 17 through its online system, while the official list of qualified candidates for the CPCCS will be published on September 24.

The local elections were initially scheduled for February 14, 2027; however, on March 27, the CNE plenary decided to move the elections forward to November 29, justifying the decision by citing the potential for heavy rains and flooding on the original date.
The CNE based its decision on a report from the National Secretariat for Risk Management, a state institution that warns of the possible impact of the El Niño phenomenon in the country in the first months of 2027, which could affect polling stations and cause problems in the transport of electoral material and in the vote processing centers.
