Santo Domingo. Urban artist El Alfa and former basketball player Francisco García expressed their enthusiasm for the inauguration of the Arena Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto, highlighting the importance of the new facility for the development of Dominican basketball.
During a tour of the renovated sports venue, El Alfa stated that the project represents a long-held dream for athletes and fans.
“We spent a decade waiting for it. Thank God it happened for us,” expressed the performer, who described the arena as a “beautiful” facility.
The singer stated that, although there are still aspects to improve, the country is advancing in the strengthening of its sports infrastructure.
“Now the one that’s left is missing, but we are doing well. Look at how the town is, happy. We have a new basketball court. We already saw NBA teams play here and we didn’t have a court like this. We are happy,” he stated.
For his part, Francisco García, a former member of the national team and with experience in the NBA, spoke positively about the conditions of the renovated arena and praised the atmosphere he found during the Dominican team’s training sessions. “The facility is perfect, it’s very nice,” he maintained.

The former player also highlighted the unity and dedication shown by the members of the national team during the days of preparation.
“The boys practiced extremely hard for five consecutive days. I saw them well-coordinated. There wasn’t a single player who stood out above the others because everyone gave their all in every practice,” he noted.
García also highlighted the group’s potential, considering that the team has a solid foundation for the coming years.
“We have a core that is also the future of this team. There is talent for many years to come and they will continue to grow and learn to play together,” he stated.
At the conclusion of the interview, El Alfa sent a message of optimism regarding the national team’s upcoming commitments.
