Gilmer Martínez presents his book “The Mark of Seven Women” and highlights the historical and spiritual value of women

Santo Domingo.-Dominican writer Gilmer Martínez presented his work titled The Mark of Seven Women, a book with a focus on self-improvement aimed especially at women and that addresses the impact they have had throughout history through different virtues. During his intervention, Martinez explained that the work has a historical and cultural background, and is structured around seven “marks” or virtues which, according to the author, represent the mark that many women have left on humanity. Each of these virtues is inspired by female characters from the Bible, as well as outstanding women in universal history who distinguished themselves by their struggle, leadership and contributions to society. The author took the opportunity to reflect on the role of women in society, noting that, although he does not share some currents of current feminism, he recognizes that women began to fully exercise their civil rights relatively recently. He recalled that in the Dominican Republic the right to female suffrage was established in the 1940s, which shows that there is still a long way to go to achieve a more just society. Martínez highlighted the importance of promoting equity between men and women, understood as fair treatment before society, justice, and the laws. In that sense, he pointed out that every woman should have the freedom to choose her own role, whether as a homemaker, businesswoman, or professional, without this representing a disadvantage or superiority over other life decisions.

Furthermore, the writer addressed the vision of women from a biblical perspective, indicating that in his book he analyzes how the Scriptures recognize the value and capacity of women. He cited as an example the passage of the virtuous woman described in the book of Proverbs, whom he presents as a hardworking, entrepreneurial figure with leadership capacity within her family and her environment.
