Hamas condemned this Thursday the deaths of children due to hypothermia in the Gaza Strip as a result of the cold and the storms of recent days, the last one a one-month-old baby in Yan Yunis, and held Israel responsible.
On Monday, a two-week-old baby already died due to hypothermia, and today the death of another newborn, one month old, has been reported, who died from the same cause in the last hours in Al-Mawasi (Khan Yunis, Gaza).
In the statement published by Hamas, Qasem asked the US administration and its president, Donald Trump, to put pressure on Israel to allow the entry of aid and shelters as well as the opening of the crossings. The inclement weather of the last few days has left hundreds of tents flooded and destroyed; in them, thousands of internally displaced Gazans subsisted due to the conflict. The Gazan emergency service Civil Defense has estimated that more than 90 buildings have suffered partial collapses and put the population at risk. 81% of all structures and buildings in Gaza have been destroyed by Israeli bombings during their offensive, and despite the ceasefire, the Army continues to demolish buildings in the 54% of the Strip that remains under its control. Since the beginning of the ceasefire, last October 10, 395 Palestinians have died – the majority civilians, including more than 70 children – and 1,075 have been injured, according to Gaza Health.
