Happy Marriage Movement requests the Ministry of Culture to intervene in the show “La Casa de Alofoke 2” for considering it contrary to ethical and family values

Santo Domingo.- The evangelical collective Happy Marriage Movement sent a formal request to the Ministry of Culture and the National Commission of Public Shows to intervene in the show “La Casa de Alofoke 2”, alleging that it promotes “violence, vulgarity and immorality”, and that it represents a threat to the formation of Dominican children and youth. According to the letter delivered to the state institution, the movement considers that “the public expressions, messages and dynamics” of the program “are contrary to the ethical, moral and family values that we seek to cultivate in our nation“.

In their writing, the group warns that this content “transmits negative models to children and young people, compromising education in values and healthy social coexistence“.

For this reason, it requests the Ministry of Culture to adopt “the necessary measures to suspend or regulate these events and content that are contrary to the common good and the values that underpin our nation.”

The program in question is in its second season, and the movement’s request focuses on the protection of minors and the impact that, according to them, the dissemination of certain messages can have on the formation of young Dominicans.  This case opens the debate on the limits of freedom of expression, the role of the State in the regulation of media content, and how what constitutes a “message contrary to values” is defined in a plural society like the Dominican one.
