Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Institute for the Prevention and Protection of Occupational Risks (IDOPPRIL) and the Dominican Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SDOT) signed a collaboration agreement with the purpose of strengthening the quality of orthopedic and traumatological care received by workers affiliated with the Occupational Risk Insurance (SRL).

The agreement was signed by the executive director of IDOPPRIL, Dr. Agustín Burgos, and the president of the SDOT, Dr. Andy de León. It contemplates the technical and economic review of medical fees and surgical procedures in orthopedics and traumatology, as well as the expansion of clinical follow-up consultations. This is with the aim of optimizing patient care and recovery.

As part of the commitments made, the SDOT will be recognized as a technical advisory body to IDOPPRIL in the field of orthopedics and traumatology. In this regard, it will provide specialized advice on case evaluation, protocol review, medical audits, and the formulation of scientific recommendations.

Likewise, both institutions agreed to create a permanent technical committee to analyze administrative and clinical aspects, propose operational improvements, and contribute to the resolution of situations related to the orthopedic and traumatological services offered to affiliates.

The agreement also promotes a joint agenda for research, continuing medical education, scientific conferences, and the development of quality and patient safety protocols.

“This framework agreement will also regulate and, in a way, more officially integrate every orthopedist in the Dominican Republic as a service provider for IDOPPRIL”, explained Dr. Burgos.

He added that “this pact brings to the table an issue that affects the Dominican Republic, which impacts both us orthopedists and IDOPPRIL”. In that sense, he specified that “commuting accidents and their economic, social, and strategic consequences are affecting a segment of the population between 18 and 35 years old in the country”. Burgos estimated that said collaboration “is going to strengthen both institutions, as it will lead to the benefit of the patient, which is our reason for being, both for the Society and for IDOPPRIL”.

For his part, the president of the SDOT agreed that patients “are the convergence point” of both organizations. He highlighted that “every orthopedist in the Dominican territory who is legally established, who has all their documentation, and who is endorsed by the Dominican Society of Orthopedics, has the IDOPPRIL code.” He estimated that “this is a giant step and one of trust” for the Society. “This contract that we have just signed gives us a guarantee of work, and security to users that wherever there is an orthopedist, they will also be licensed to work on behalf of IDOPPRIL,” specified Dr. De León.

He detailed that the agreement will also allow the union to scientifically investigate and manage preventive measures to reduce the numbers of workplace and traffic accidents.
