Iran lashes out at Ukraine for attacking its commercial vessel

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attack perpetrated this Saturday by the Kiev regime against a merchant vessel of the Persian nation in the Caspian Sea, which caused the vessel to explode, resulting in the death of one sailor and injuries to another, reports Tasnim.

The Foreign Ministry stressed that this action constitutes a violation of the UN Charter and “an act of aggression that can exacerbate and spread the war”.

“The Ukrainian regime’s attack on an Iranian merchant vessel in the Caspian Sea, explicitly acknowledged by the head of said regime, evidences the persistence of the irrational and hostile attitude of the Ukrainian regime towards the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the statement reads.

The organization urged the international community to react to the attack. “Every party interested in peace and security in Eastern Europe and the surrounding regions must take a responsible stance regarding this dangerous action by the Ukrainian regime and hold the Ukrainian authorities accountable for this criminal and provocative act,” it stated.

Likewise, the ministry stressed that it has never intervened in the conflict between Moscow and Kiev and drew the attention of the UN Security Council, European countries, and all members of the United Nations to the evident fact that, “by attacking an Iranian merchant vessel, the Ukrainian regime not only committed a violation of international law, but also seeks, in a dangerous manner, to sow war and insecurity“.

In that context, he asserted that the Islamic Republic “will not hesitate to defend its national interests and its security in accordance with the fundamental principles and norms of international law,” emphasizing that “the consequences of the adventurism” of the head of the Ukrainian regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, will be the “responsibility of said regime and its supporters and instigators.”
