Santo Domingo.– Given the increasing circulation on social media of videos featuring children who are allegedly victims of sexual violence, journalist, university professor, and communication specialist José Ramón Suero has called for an end to this practice, considering it a serious violation of children’s rights.
Suero warned that, in many cases, minors are interviewed or recorded after the events, allowing for their public identification, which constitutes a form of revictimization and could generate legal liabilities for those who produce, disseminate, or share such material.
“No amount of ‘likes’ or views justifies exposing a child’s pain. Reporting does not mean showing their face or revealing elements that allow them to be identified,” he stated.
He recalled that Law 136-03, the Constitution of the Dominican Republic, Law 53-07 on High-Tech Crimes and Offenses, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child guarantee the protection of the identity, dignity, and privacy of minors who are victims of crimes.

The communicator urged media outlets, digital pages, content creators, and social media users to act responsibly and remove any publication that allows for the identification of a child who is a victim of violence. He emphasized that protecting their identity is not only an ethical duty but also a legal obligation.
