Leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia held a meeting this Wednesday with Venezuela’s main opposition coalition, the Unitary Platform (PUD), to analyze the path of dialogue agreed upon by Parliament and a group of opposition members who were part of the 2015 Legislature.

A source close to the PUD, who requested anonymity, confirmed to the news agency EFE that the meeting took place, although they did not provide further details on the topics discussed or specify whether any agreement was reached regarding the new process that will officially begin on August 1.

As of the time of publication, neither Machado, nor González Urrutia, nor the PUD have released information regarding this meeting.

The day before, the Vente Venezuela party, led by Machado, announced through a statement its participation in the meeting, the objective of which was to “gather information” regarding the announced path of dialogue and to “define a public position on the matter“.

This announcement was made after the Venezuelan Parliament, under Chavista control, and a group of opposition members from the 2015 Legislature announced the start of a work plan from August 1st, aimed at promoting democracy in the country.

The talks began on June 18, when the president of the National Assembly, the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, met with Dinorah Figuera, who defends the continuity of the legislature elected in 2015.

Previous conversations between both parties began on June 18, when the president of the National Assembly (AN), the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, met with Dinorah Figuera, who defends the continuity of the 2015-elected legislature, which has an opposition majority and is backed by the United States.

The AN published a brief statement on social media noting that the plan seeks the “strengthening of democracy“, as well as “facing the consequences of the seismic doublet all together“.

For its part, the opposition group described the process as a “roadmap to promote stability, democracy and national recovery“, with the goal of initiating “the construction of a new stage that will give way to a Venezuela of progress and freedoms“.

This statement was shared on X by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.

This Wednesday, the secretary general of the Movement for Venezuela (MPV), Simón Calzadilla, stated that this new path of dialogue involves “an important sector of the opposition” and “opens up a range of possibilities” to achieve “a political change in the country“.

“That Dinorah Figuera has been called, incorporated into this, and will work in conjunction with the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, and the US government, opens up a range of possibilities that hopefully will initiate the process of restructuring, reinstitutionalization, and economic recovery,” the former deputy expressed in a press release.
