Santo Domingo.– After learning of the decision by the Second Chamber of the Criminal Court of Appeals of the National District to order the opening of a trial against Jean André Pumarol Fernández, the victim María Teresa Fabián de Heredia expressed that she hopes the process will conclude with a conviction and that the defendant will remain in prison.
Fabián stated that the judicial decision represents an important step for the victims, although he assured that he will only regain peace of mind when the accused is convicted.
“In the name of Jesus. It was necessary. He cannot be in society. We are all trembling because nothing good is expected from him,” he expressed.
The survivor reiterated that her main wish is for the defendant to receive an exemplary sentence.
“That is what we are waiting for, for them to put him in prison and give him 30 years,” he stated.
When asked if the Court’s decision brings her peace of mind, she replied that she still lives in fear.
“Sure, one receives that peace, but not yet. When I saw it from the bottom of the prison, yes. Even so, we are sure that justice will be served, in the name of God,” he concluded.
The Court of Appeal revoked the no-grounds order that had favored Jean André Pumarol Fernández and ordered the opening of a trial, accepting the appeals filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the victims of the case.
