Ministry of Culture announces winners of the 2025 Annual Craftsmanship Award

An inter-institutional and international jury selected the winners in the different categories

Santo Domingo.– The Ministry of Culture announced the winners of the 2025 Annual Craft Award during a press conference held at the Ramón Oviedo Gallery, at the institution’s headquarters.

In the unique pieces category, first place went to “Marchanta“, created by Hamlet Eduardo Báez Mir. Second place was awarded to the work “Los niños en el barco“, by Ysidro Rosario Javier, and in third place was recognized the piece “Familia, nido estrellado“, created by Franklyn Reynaldo Sánchez Martínez. In the production crafts category, the piece “Las dominicanitas” by Daysi María de la Cruz was awarded first place. Meanwhile, second place was given to the work “Las guineas“, created by Ysidro Rosario Javier, and third place went to the piece “Exploring, feeling and learning“, made by Oriolys Joselin Ramírez Velásquez.

In the special category of sustainable fiber crafts, the piece “The peasant”, created by Mariale Eloyne Rodriguez, made with banana fiber, was the winner. Likewise, the work “The banana fiber relief”, also made by Mariale Eloyne Rodriguez, was recognized.

The event was led by the Vice Minister of Cultural Industries, Alicia Baroni, who was accompanied by various authorities and representatives of the artisanal sector. The Annual Craft Award seeks to recognize the cultural, artistic, and productive value of national crafts, as well as to stimulate innovation, quality, and the preservation of traditions as an essential part of Dominican cultural heritage. In this edition, the registration process concluded with the reception of 62 pieces, distributed in the categories of unique pieces, production crafts and the special category, corresponding to sustainable fiber crafts. The awards system contemplated the delivery of eight awards in order to recognize the diversity of proposals presented. The committee evaluated criteria such as technical quality, creativity, innovation, sustainability, and cultural contribution of each proposal, and the results were duly validated by the public notary Marcia Pérez.
