The telecommunications company Nokia announced this Thursday that it will form a strategic alliance with the Finnish startup NestAI to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based defense and critical infrastructure solutions.
Within the framework of this alliance, Nokia also announced that it will invest 100 million euros in NestAI alongside the state-owned venture capital company Tesi to boost the innovation capacity of this startup.
According to Nokia, NestAI is one of Europe’s fastest-growing physical AI labs and specializes in the application of cutting-edge artificial intelligence to unmanned vehicles and command and control (C2) platforms for surveillance, security, and defense tasks.

“At Nokia, we believe that the future of defense and critical infrastructure will be defined by secure AI-based solutions. Our strategic alliance with NestAI is proof of our commitment to innovation alongside our partners,” said Justin Hotard, CEO of Nokia, in a statement.
“By combining Nokia’s experience in advanced and secure connectivity with NestAI’s pioneering platforms, we are accelerating the development of next-generation capabilities for defense and national security,” he added.
This alliance represents another step in the Finnish company’s strategy to develop specific solutions for the defense industry, for which it has created its own business unit called Nokia Defense.
As part of this strategy, Nokia acquired the American company Fenix Group last year, which specializes in broadband tactical communications solutions for the defense industry.
