Santo Domingo.- The deputy for the province of Pedernales, Rafael Pérez, announced this Wednesday his irrevocable resignation from the Fuerza del Pueblo party and the Central Committee of that organization, during an ordinary session of the Chamber of Deputies.
Upon addressing the chamber, the legislator informed that he had formally submitted his resignation to the corresponding party bodies.
“Today I want to provide the most important information of my political career to date. This morning we formally submitted to the Fuerza del Pueblo organizations our irrevocable resignation from the Central Committee and as a member of the FP,” he expressed.
Pérez explained that the decision was made after deep personal reflection, based on honesty and responsibility. Likewise, he expressed his gratitude for the experiences, lessons, and relationships built during his time in the political organization.
The congressman stated that he is leaving the People’s Force with the satisfaction of a duty fulfilled and acknowledged the support received from leaders and party colleagues during the years he was a member of that entity.

With Pérez’s departure, the Fuerza del Pueblo bench in the Chamber of Deputies goes from 28 to 27 legislators. However, the organization continues to be the second political force in the National Congress, behind the Modern Revolutionary Party.

So far, the deputy has not explained the specific reasons for his resignation nor has he informed whether he will join another political organization or if he will carry out his duties as an independent legislator.
It joins other recent resignations
The resignation comes just a week after Senator Antonio Taveras announced his departure from the PRM during a Senate session. On that occasion, the legislator argued that the ruling party had strayed from its principles of fighting against impunity and decided to continue as an independent senator.
The resignation of the Pedernales representative comes at a time when several political figures have begun to redefine their positions within the Dominican party scene, generating movements that could impact the composition of legislative benches in the coming months.
