Santo Domingo. – The Public Ministry requested preventive detention, as a coercive measure, against a couple accused of the death of a 7-year-old girl, which occurred last weekend in the Los Guandules sector, in the National District.
Yokeiry Coronado De La Cruz and her partner Jeider Montero Medina are under investigation for homicide, acts of torture and barbarity, and child abuse.
The investigation establishes that the infant was under the care of the accused, who failed in their duty of protection, which led to her death on August 16th.
According to the measure request presented by prosecutor Topacio Milagro Suero Sierra, assigned to the Department of Crimes and Offenses against the Person (Homicide) of the National District, the events occurred during the months of July and August of the current year, when the defendant Yokeiry Coronado De La Cruz engaged in acts of mistreatment against the victim, while the defendant Jeider Montero Medina, having knowledge of the situation, did not report it, which culminated in the death of the girl.
On August 16, 2025, at approximately 6:30 in the evening, the defendant Yokeiry Coronado De La Cruz requested the presence of her relatives Alejandrina Rodríguez Polanco and María Polanco De La Cruz at her residence, located on Respaldo Eugenio Perdomo street, Los Guandules sector, because the girl was having seizures.
Upon arrival, Mrs. Alejandrina Rodríguez Polanco contacted the National Emergency System 9-1-1 to report that the girl was unconscious. Subsequently, a forensic doctor from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) certified the girl’s death, establishing that the cause of death was related to a case of repeated abuse, as stated in the Death Certificate No. 0100959.
The defendant, Yokeiry Coronado De La Cruz, offered a version of the causes of death that did not coincide with the forensic findings, which is why she was arrested by the authorities, after the reading of her constitutional rights. Subsequently, agents of the National Police also arrested Jeider Montero Medina, by virtue of the duty of care and protection that he had with his partner over the victim.
The Public Ministry charges Yokeiry Coronado De La Cruz and her partner Jeider Montero Medina with the violation of articles 295, 303, 303-1 and 304, paragraph II, of the Dominican Penal Code, as well as articles 396, letters a and b, and 397 of Law 136-03, which creates the Code for the Protection and Fundamental Rights of Children and Adolescents.
It is expected that in the next few hours, the Permanent Attention Services Judicial Office will set the date for the hearing to consider the request for coercive measures filed by the Public Ministry.
