Santo Domingo.– The Vice President of the
Republic, Raquel Peña, and the Minister of
Sports and
Recreation,
Kelvin Cruz, led the inauguration this Thursday of the new multi-purpose facility of the Manganagua Sports Club, a work built with an investment of over 31 million pesos and which will benefit hundreds of athletes and young people from that community in the National District.
The sports facility becomes the 50th project delivered during Cruz’s management at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), in a period of one year and nine months.
During the event, the minister highlighted the importance of offering dignified spaces for the development of youth and the strengthening of sports activities in popular sectors.
“
Today we celebrate the delivery of a work that will transform the lives of many young people. We went from having a court in precarious conditions to a modern and adequate facility for the practice of different sports disciplines”, Cruz expressed.
Likewise, he attributed the project’s completion to the support of President Luis Abinader and the government’s policy of promoting sports and recreation throughout the country.
For her part, Vice President Raquel Peña highlighted the positive impact that the multipurpose facility will have on the children and adolescents of Manganagua.
“We have a great commitment to the well-being of our children and youth. This space will serve to promote sports, healthy coexistence, and the integral development of the young people of this community,” he stated.
The new facility is located on Francisco Prats Ramírez Avenue and has an approximate area of 1,110 square meters. The work included the remodeling of the play area, construction of bleachers, repair of bathrooms, improvements in outdoor areas and the erection of new metal structures.
In addition, a suspended synthetic surface was installed for the court, professional backboards certified by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), a digital scoreboard, volleyball poles and nets, as well as a renovated electrical system and improvements to the perimeter wall.
During the activity, the volunteer group responsible for overseeing the maintenance and conservation of the work was also sworn in, with the aim of ensuring its proper functioning in the long term.
The event was attended by the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Garibaldy Bautista; the vice mayor of the National District, Stalin Alcántara; congresswoman Liz Mieses; the director of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI), Alberto Rodríguez, as well as community leaders, athletes, and residents of the area.
