Santiago.-Construction of the Amber Highway will begin next month with the groundbreaking of the project, announced this Saturday the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, while highlighting the support of 79 institutions from Santiago and other Cibao provinces for a project she described as decisive for the development of the Northern region.
During a meeting convened by the Association of Merchants and Industrialists of Santiago (ACIS), at the Santiago Business Building, the official assured that the broad consensus reached among the different sectors guarantees the definitive boost for an infrastructure called to transform the connection between Santiago and Puerto Plata.
“I appreciate that support. The most important thing is that the population, the communities, and the provinces have understood that this is a project that will bring benefits, growth, development, and progress to Santiago, Puerto Plata, the entire Cibao region, and the country. We are very happy because, God willing, the groundbreaking ceremony will be next month,” expressed Peña.

The Vice President maintained that the Amber Highway will strengthen the competitiveness of the Cibao region by reducing travel time between Santiago and Puerto Plata, facilitating the transport of goods, boosting tourism, and attracting new investments.

The meeting brought together representatives from 79 business, commercial, professional, and social organizations from the Northern region, who expressed their support for the project, considered one of the most significant road infrastructure works for the country’s economic development.
With the announcement of the start of the works, the Government is accelerating the execution of a project expected for decades that promises to become a strategic hub for mobility, production, and growth for the entire Cibao region.
