Santo Domingo. – National deputy Ramón Raposo stated that the collapse of the bridge over the Ozama River, in the municipal district of Don Juan, Monte Plata province, which claimed the life of one person, is another example of the lack of supervision by the authorities, a situation that, according to him, ends up directly affecting the citizenry.
Raposo expressed his concern about the constant deterioration of infrastructure in different parts of the country, without effective actions being taken to ensure structural safety by the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Housing, or the National Office for Seismic Evaluation and Infrastructure and Building Vulnerability (ONESVIE).
“The collapse of buildings and bridges has become recurrent, with regrettable human losses and injuries, without clear responsibilities or consequences for those responsible being established,” declared the congressman of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).
The legislator cited as examples the collapse of the Jet Set nightclub and the detachment of a side of the overpass at the intersection of 27 de Febrero and Máximo Gómez avenues, where, according to him, dozens of people died.
Raposo reported that he recently submitted a bill that seeks to establish mandatory supervision and certification of buildings with high public demand, as well as the creation of a digital platform where citizens can consult the safety level of the structures they frequent.
