Rio de Janeiro.- At least 5.1 million people participated in the New Year’s Eve festivities organized by Rio de Janeiro, of which 2.6 million on Copacabana beach, which allowed the most emblematic city in Brazil to renew its record as the organizer of the largest New Year’s Eve party in the world.
The participation figures for Wednesday night’s celebrations were released by the Rio de Janeiro city hall this Thursday, two days after the city received from Guinness World Records the title that certifies it as the owner of the largest New Year’s Eve party in the world.
The received title refers to the record set at the 2024 farewell party, when Copacabana, the most famous beach in Brazil, received 2.5 million people.
In addition to the 2.6 million people enjoying the fireworks, a drone show, and a marathon of musical concerts on three stages in Copacabana, another 2.5 million participated in the parties organized by the city hall on ten other beaches and public squares.
The fireworks display of the ‘Réveillon’ this Wednesday lasted twelve minutes and had a greater spatial amplitude because the mayor’s office used 19 rafts anchored in front of Copacabana beach as a launch base for the rockets on this occasion, twice the number of vessels used in the farewell of 2024.
The big news at the 2025 New Year’s Eve party was a show with 1,200 drones, which formed figures in the sky representing places in Rio de Janeiro, such as Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain.
According to the mayor’s office, it was the largest drone presentation held at major events in Latin America.

And the musical fun was guaranteed by concerts of emblematic figures of the so-called Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) such as Gilberto Gil and Ney Matogrosso.
The samba also took place at the party with well-known singers of the genre such as Belo, Alcione, Roberta Sá, Martinália and Diogo Nogueira, as well as electronic music with the DJ Alok.
One of the three stages set up on Copacabana beach was exclusive to singers of the gospel genre.
In the sands, taken by a crowd mostly dressed in white as tradition dictates, there were altars with candles and flowers for Yemayá set up by practitioners of Afro-Brazilian religions.
The concerts ended in the early hours of the morning with a performance by the gigantic ‘bateria’ (percussion orchestra) of Beija Flor, one of the most popular samba ‘escolas’ in Rio de Janeiro, which did not prevent thousands of people from staying on the beach until the morning of this Thursday.
