Santo Domingo Norte.-The bloc of transporters and social organizations of Santo Domingo Norte described this Tuesday as a “disguised tax reform” the bill sent by the Executive Branch to the National Congress regarding “Economic Procedure Measures, Fiscal Simplification and Mitigation of the International Crisis”.
Transporters and community leaders, during a peaceful demonstration, stated that those who end up bearing the greatest burden of these decisions are the most vulnerable sectors, while asserting that for more than a year, basic food basket products have not stopped rising, causing imbalance for thousands of families.
Rubén Darío, one of the transport spokespersons, asserted that the Government wants to keep looking for more money, but they want to sugarcoat things to continue abusing the people.
“It is a tax reform to sink this people even further… we can’t take it anymore, the drivers, the housewives, the nurses, the teachers, the workers, we cannot bear any more economic burdens,” maintained the transport leader.
He added that the high cost of fuel, the increase in food prices, and the elimination of benefits such as Bonogás continue to deteriorate the quality of life for thousands of Dominican families.
They reject the “gag law”.

However, carriers and grassroots organizations rejected the so-called “gag law” and demanded the payment of outstanding commitments to carriers of the Máximo Gómez avenue corridor.
They warned that they will maintain the days of protest until they obtain concrete answers from the authorities and called for the unity of the different social sectors to defend the rights of the population and face the constant increase in fuel costs.
