The Swedish Government urged e-commerce platforms this Friday to stop the sale of sex dolls with a childlike appearance and warned that they could introduce legal measures if they do not act. “I now assume that the platforms will take responsibility and do everything possible to stop the cases of these child-like dolls. If we see that this does not happen to a sufficient degree, the Government will not hesitate to promote legal reforms,” said the Swedish Minister for Social Affairs, Camilla Waltersson Grönvall. Grönvall held a meeting today with representatives from various platforms, such as the American Amazon and the Chinese Shein, child rights organizations, and other authorities to discuss the issue. The French government this week denounced Shein for selling such dolls and announced that it will do the same with other platforms such as AliExpress and Joom. The European Commission asked Shein two days ago to inform it about the measures it is taking to prevent minors from having access to illegal goods, “in particular child-like sex dolls and weapons”.
