Santo Domingo. – According to the Dominican Republic’s National Meteorological Office (INDOMET), this Monday, during the morning hours, a sunny sky will be observed in most of the country, slightly opaque with a grayish and partly cloudy appearance, due to slight concentrations of Saharan dust particles. Only a few isolated showers are expected in La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, and Barahona.
While for the afternoon, the incidence of a trough in the upper levels will cause local showers with thunderstorms and wind gusts over Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Monte Plata, Azua, La Vega, San Juan, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez and Monte Cristi.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, concentrations of Saharan dust particles will remain low, for this reason, a sunny and slightly gray environment will prevail over almost the entire national territory. However, some local showers, isolated thunderstorms and possible wind gusts will be generated in La Vega, Monte Plata, San Juan and Elías Piña, especially in the afternoon, as a result of wind drag, daytime heating and the slight incidence of the trough aloft.
The thermal sensation will remain very high, due to the time of year (summer) and the warm and humid wind from the southeast. It is important that the population continues with the recommendation to drink enough fluids (preferably water) to maintain hydration, wear light-colored clothing, seek cool and ventilated places, avoid periods of greater sun exposure without protection between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In addition, keep in mind that children and the elderly and people more susceptible to suffering the effects of these high temperatures.
