Santiago.- The Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Santiago will hear this Wednesday, March 18, starting at 4:00 in the afternoon, the coercive measure against two young people accused of assaulting a woman in broad daylight on a public road, in an event that occurred in broad daylight in the city center and was captured by surveillance cameras. This is about David Jiménez Feliz and Christopher Torres Ortiz, alias “El Mosquito“, who are facing charges for their alleged participation in the robbery that occurred last Sunday, March 8, at the intersection of Salvador Cucurullo and Duarte streets in this city. The process was postponed for the second time, maintaining the expectation surrounding the case, while the Public Ministry insists on its request for pre-trial detention against both defendants, considering that there are sufficient elements that link them to the act. According to the indictment filed by the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office, the defendants were traveling on a Z3000 CG200 motorcycle, black in color, allegedly driven by Jiménez Feliz, when they intercepted the victim, a Haitian woman who was walking along the aforementioned road. According to preliminary investigations, Christopher Torres Ortiz would have been the one who snatched the woman’s wallet, which contained cash and other belongings, and then tried to escape with his companion.

However, the escape was thwarted by the quick intervention of a driver who witnessed the assault and rammed the motorcycle on which the alleged robbers were traveling with his vehicle, causing partial damage to the engine. After the impact, both men fled on foot. The witness, whose identity is kept confidential for security reasons, has been identified by the authorities as a key piece within the investigation. Likewise, the file is supported by videos from surveillance cameras that captured both the moment of the assault and the subsequent events. The images were taken by agents of the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM) and the Cyber Police Area Directorate (DICAT). The Prosecutor’s Office indicated that, after obtaining the corresponding arrest warrants, it proceeded to execute them when the accused appeared before the Department of Crimes and Offenses against Property of the prosecuting body. Provisionally, the Public Ministry attributes to them the violation of articles 265, 266, 2, 379, 382, 383 and 386-2 of the Dominican Penal Code, which sanction the crimes of association of wrongdoers and attempted robbery with violence on public roads. The case has generated public attention due to the way the robbery occurred in a highly transited area of downtown Santiago, as well as the immediate reaction of a citizen who prevented the alleged assailants from escaping at that moment.
