Washington.- US President Donald Trump joked this Friday about his Mexican counterpart, Claudia Sheinbaum, and imitated her voice while reaffirming his position on the use of the name «Gulf of Mexico», a topic that has generated debate political and diplomatic between both countries.
“She (Sheinbaum) is a beautiful woman, she has a beautiful voice… she was a ballet dancer,” Trump said during a private dinner of the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches, held this Friday in Florida.
“With her beautiful voice she has told me ‘president, president, tell me you are not going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico’, oh yes I am going to do it, I replied.”
Trump said “president, president” in a bad translation he tried to do from Spanish.

Trump decided to revisit the controversy over the name of the Gulf of Mexico, which he reactivated in January 2025, when the American president publicly raised the possibility of referring to the area as “Gulf of America” in official documents and communications in the United States.
The proposal generated immediate rejection from the Mexican Government, headed by Sheinbaum, who defended the historical name of the gulf and warned that it will not accept unilateral changes to its name in international forums or on official maps.
