Rome.- Two people died and dozens were injured this Friday in the Italian city of Milan due to the derailment of a tram while crossing the center, crashing into a wall and running over several pedestrians. One of them is in critical condition, six are serious and many others have minor injuries, according to the same sources. The tram corresponds to the line that crosses the center of Milan from the central train station to Porta Genova station. The derailment occurred between Plaza de la República and Porta Venecia, near the center, and numerous emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene, including police officers, firefighters, and emergency services with a large operation in the area.

According to a first reconstruction of the events, in addition to videos and images spread on social media, the tram with passengers on board derailed, invading the opposite lane until colliding with a wall, running over several pedestrians in its path. The Milan prosecutor, Marcello Viola, has appeared at the scene and in the coming hours will open an investigation for involuntary manslaughter and negligent injury with the aim of clarifying what happened, the media add.
