The new confrontation between the White House and the most populous U.S. state, led by Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, arises over state law AB 1127, which went into effect this Wednesday, July 1.

The measure covers popular pistols manufactured by Glock, as well as those with similar designs, that use a ‘cruciform trigger bar’ which, according to the law’s proponents, facilitates their conversion into a repeating and fully automatic weapon through the use of a simple, easily obtainable ‘switch’.

“The Second Amendment is a sacred right that belongs to all Americans, including those in California. California cannot ban the most popular type of handgun in America,” declared Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.

The senior official added that his department will work for the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

The state regulation requires sellers to cease all sales of new inventory that falls into this classification. However, it does not penalize current possession; that is, anyone who already owns a Glock-style pistol has legal permission to keep it.

The authors of the law, passed last October, argue that firearm manufacturers have not taken action on the matter, even though it has been known for decades that Glock-style pistols can easily be converted into machine guns.
