Young man linked to homicide in Nigua is handed over; family members claim he is innocent

Santo Domingo.– José Luis Soriano, 23, who was wanted by the authorities for his alleged connection to a homicide that occurred in the San Gregorio community, Nigua municipality, on January 17, surrendered this Monday to the National Police Palace. The delivery took place in the company of Carlos Sánchez, Human Rights coordinator, as well as several family members, with the aim of guaranteeing the physical integrity of the young man and facilitating that the event be duly clarified by the competent authorities. According to preliminary information, Soriano is being accused of the death of Andy Germán Asencio, whom he described as a close friend of his family and part of his community. During the handover, the young man’s father categorically denied his son’s involvement in the crime.

“They just mention it and that’s it. He’s innocent, he knows nothing about that,” he said.

In that same order, both the family members and Soriano himself indicated that the alleged perpetrator of the act would be a maternal uncle of the young man, identified as Joselo Correa, a version that, as they explained, has been communicated to the authorities for investigation purposes. The family also maintained that José Luis Soriano has no criminal record and works in a welding workshop, so they trust that the process will clarify the facts and prove his innocence. The case is under investigation by the Public Ministry and the corresponding agencies, while the necessary procedures are carried out to establish responsibilities in the matter.
