Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader led a follow-up meeting this Tuesday on the ongoing actions to ensure an orderly and effective start to the school year 2025-2026, scheduled for next Monday, August 25.
Accompanied by the Minister of
Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, the four main areas in evaluation were cited: infrastructure and quotas; human resources and training; equipment and materials; student welfare.

In that sense, the Head of State highlighted that it is a priority of the Government that all children have a guaranteed place this coming school year and indicated that breakfast will be delivered to each student from the first day of classes.
This with the aim of providing the necessary conditions for all students to be able to learn and grow in a safe environment.
Likewise, he stated that provinces such as La Altagracia, Santo Domingo and Santiago, and the municipality of Haina, in San Cristóbal, present challenges in terms of classroom availability due to their population growth.
441 classrooms inaugurated in 2025
Minister De Camps described the guarantee of quotas in schools as an “obligation of the State,” for which a student pre-registration platform was enabled, 441 classrooms were inaugurated in this 2025, and 28 additional centers are projected.
Mobile classrooms and space leases will also be added.
In the work meeting, a technical report on school infrastructure throughout the country was presented, with special attention to maintenance, adaptation, and expansion works, presenting solutions that will allow all students to have classrooms available to start their classes on the established date.
Also participating were the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, vice ministers, technicians, and key officials from the education ministry.
