Santo Domingo. — APEC University, led by its rector Erick Vega, reaffirmed its commitment to the country’s development by holding an update talk on the status of the energy and mining sector in the Dominican Republic, highlighting its strategic role in national economic growth.
The activity took place within the framework of the Open Classroom program and featured a presentation by the Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons, Ricardo Guerrero, who addressed the advances and projections of these key sectors.
During his intervention, Vega emphasized that both energy and mining represent fundamental pillars for the sustainable development of the country, while highlighting the importance of generating spaces for dialogue between academia, the public sector, and civil society.
“The goal is to keep us updated as a university, strengthen the link with the different actors and contribute ideas that contribute to the future plans of the nation,” he expressed.

The rector also highlighted recent initiatives of the institution, such as the launch of the master’s degree in Cybersecurity Solutions Architecture, aimed at strengthening technological competencies within the engineering area.
He also reported that the university is advancing in the international accreditation process of its engineering programs with ABET, an effort led by Dean Jorge Luis Pimentel.
In the realm of strategic alliances, Vega indicated that conversations are ongoing with the company MELITRA to strengthen training and development in engineering areas, in line with future demands.

The rector also referred to the technological investments that impact the country, mentioning companies like Google and NVIDIA, as well as energy infrastructure projects, including the submarine electric transmission cable to Puerto Rico.
Regarding the mining and energy sector, he highlighted the potential of initiatives such as the development of the port of Manzanillo, the discovery of rare earths in Pedernales, and the possibilities of oil exploration in the national territory.
