Pedernales.— The Commanding General of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD), Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, delivered the Cabeza de Agua detachment in Pedernales province, following the completion of renovation and refurbishment work on its facilities.
The intervention is part of the military infrastructure strengthening program being developed by the Army in the border area, with the purpose of improving service conditions for personnel and reinforcing the operational capacity of the units deployed in this part of the country.

The works included the rehabilitation of the accommodation areas, remodeling of the kitchen and bathrooms, replacement of floors, doors and windows, as well as the renovation of the electrical and plumbing installations.
Waterproofing and general painting work, lighting installation, conditioning of outdoor areas, and provision of new furniture were also carried out.
Strengthening border security
During the handover ceremony, the Army’s commanding general highlighted that the modernization of military facilities seeks to ensure better conditions for the soldiers who have the responsibility of protecting the land border.
Camino Pérez pointed out that the improvement of the infrastructure contributes to increasing the efficiency and responsiveness of the military units operating in the border area with Haiti.
The delivery of the Cabeza de Agua detachment reaffirms, according to the institution, the Army’s commitment to strengthening security and military presence at the border.

In the activity, the commanding general was accompanied by the governor of Pedernales, Edirda De Oleo; Brigadier General Freddy Soto Thormann, commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade, and Colonel Ricardo Cruz Arias, commander of the 16th Infantry Battalion.
