Santo Domingo.– Given the growing wave of social and domestic violence affecting the country, municipal authorities and representatives of various churches called on the population to join efforts to face this problem that continues to claim lives, especially of women who are victims of femicides.
During a meeting with religious leaders held this Tuesday, the deputy mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Ángela Henríquez, expressed her concern regarding the more than 40 femicides recorded so far this year and stated that the situation requires the joint commitment of authorities, churches, and the citizenry.

Henríquez maintained that it is necessary to promote effective public policies aimed at preventing violence from within communities, educational centers, and households, in order to curb a problem that impacts thousands of Dominican families.

For his part, municipal colonel Juan Ramón Aquino guaranteed security conditions for an activity organized as part of awareness and reflection actions regarding this social phenomenon.
“We are going to make every effort that we have always made for all activities, but here we are going to make an even greater effort so that security is 100% efficient”, the official expressed, while assuring that adequate spaces and facilities will be provided for attendees.

Aquino highlighted the importance of men and women actively participating in these types of initiatives and considered that the fight against violence must involve the entire society.
“Only God can stop this scourge that is finishing us off. This is not a meeting for women, it is a meeting for men and for women,” he stated.
The authorities reiterated that domestic violence and femicides constitute a problem that demands urgent attention and coordinated work between the State, community organizations, churches, and the different social sectors to promote a culture of peace and respect in Dominican society.
