Santo Domingo.– The Dr. Evangelina Rodríguez Maternity Hospital (HMDER) reported the successful management of a high-risk pregnancy in a 32-year-old patient diagnosed with advanced chronic kidney disease and undergoing peritoneal dialysis treatment, a case considered of high medical complexity due to the risks it implies for both the mother and the baby.
According to the health center, the patient received specialized follow-up throughout the gestation through a multidisciplinary approach that allowed the pregnancy to be carried to 32 weeks, reaching favorable clinical conditions for the safe culmination of the process.
The pregnancy was resolved via cesarean section in a high-complexity setting, achieving satisfactory results for both the mother and the newborn. Following the procedure, the baby was received by the Neonatology team to receive the corresponding specialized care due to their prematurity.

The clinical follow-up was led by the Department of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, directed by Dr. Agustín Díaz, along with his medical team, who maintained continuous monitoring of fetal growth, uteroplacental circulation, and the baby’s well-being indicators throughout the entire pregnancy.
For its part, the management of the kidney disease was in charge of the Nephrology Service, coordinated by Dr. Ruth Araujo, ensuring the continuity of peritoneal dialysis and the patient’s clinical stability through coordinated work with the obstetric team.

Immediate care of the newborn was assumed by the Neonatology department, led by Dr. Keyla Mesa, while the surgical intervention was performed by the Obstetrics Service, directed by Dr. José Olea, with the support of Dr. José Ricardo Hernández, in charge of the Consultation area.
The director of the Dra. Evangelina Rodríguez Maternity Hospital, Dr. Marcelino Figuereo, highlighted the importance of coordination between different specialties to ensure successful outcomes in high-complexity cases.
“In situations of high medical complexity, the absolute priority is the life of the mother-child binomial. Our institutional duty is to guarantee timely, safe, and coordinated care among all specialties, ensuring clinical decisions based on the protection of life and the quality of care,” stated Figuereo.
