Santo Domingo. – The Justice Coordinator of the National Office for Support to Penitentiary Reform (ONAPREP), Juan Dionicio Rodríguez, valued as transcendental the creation of the Ministry of Justice by the Government of President Luis Abinader, pointing out that this institution will be key to transform the penitentiary system and strengthen citizen security in the country.
“El Ministerio de Justicia, yo creo que ese es un gran aporte que va a tener el gobierno de Luis Abinader”,
destacó.
During an interview granted to the program Matutino Su Mundo, Rodriguez stated that this new ministry represents one of the most important reforms in institutional matters in recent years, he also assured that from the enactment of this new institution and with the due appointment of officials, a historic opportunity opens up to supervise, restructure and strengthen the entire criminal justice system, particularly the penitentiary model.
“A partir de la designación de sus incumbentes y la vigilancia que la ciudadanía puede ejercer sobre estos, se puede transformar todo el tema penitenciario en República Dominicana”,
expresó.
He also emphasized that the impact of this ministry will not be limited to the institutional sphere, but will have direct effects on the improvement of public safety.
“Va a ser un gran aporte no solo a la sociedad, sino a la seguridad ciudadana y a la seguridad pública, porque en la República Dominicana no existe la cadena perpetua ni la pena de muerte”,
