Man accused of wounding a child during an incident in Jimaní is arrested

Independence.– Agents of the National Police arrested a 67-year-old man identified as the alleged person responsible for wounding a minor with a firearm in an incident that occurred in the community of El Limón, Jimaní municipality.

The detainee was identified as Rafael de la Cruz Pérez, who, according to preliminary investigations, allegedly fired the shot that struck the eight-year-old boy during an incident whose circumstances continue to be investigated by the authorities.

The intervention was carried out by members of the Regional Sub-directorate of Investigation (DICRIM), who seized a 9-millimeter Glock pistol that was allegedly used in the incident.

According to police records, the weapon has been reported stolen since June 1st in Santo Domingo, information that is part of the investigations being carried out by the investigative agencies.

The authorities reported that the minor received medical assistance and that their condition is being monitored, while investigations are being deepened to clarify how the events occurred.

The detainee will be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal procedures.
