The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) represented the Dominican Republic at the High-Level International Workshop on Scientific Diplomacy for Sustainable Development in Latin America, held from August 6 to 8, 2025 in Brasilia.
The workshop’s main objective was to strengthen the role of scientific diplomacy as a key tool for advancing the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), within the framework of the international leadership assumed by Brazil as president of the G20, BRICS, MERCOSUR, and host of the upcoming COP30 in Belém.
During the event, Dr. Andrés Merejo Checo, director of Promotion and Dissemination of Science and Technology of MESCyT, intervened in the discussions about the importance of integrating science into public policies.

The event was attended by delegations from the Dominican Republic, Argentina, El Salvador, Brazil, Chile, Guatemala, Mexico, Cuba and Panama, among other countries in the region. Benefits for the Dominican Republic MESCYT’s participation in this workshop will contribute to better practices and strategic alliances in the promotion of science, technology, and innovation in the Dominican Republic. This aligns with the roadmap towards an innovative and technoscientific society promoted by Minister García Fermín and Vice Minister Rodríguez Martínez. The activity was organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) of Brazil and the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), through its Science Diplomacy Center (SDC).
